Activity: Adding 17, 18 and 19

Pupils use their Enrich school orienteering maps to locate specific control points. At each one, they record the 3rd and 4th numbers from the control marker. They combine the two numbers to make a two-digit number and then add and subtract either 17,18 or 19 from this number.

Summary

  1. Pupils use the Enrich school orienteering map to locate their starting point and specific control points.
  2. At each control point, pupils fill in the 3rd and 4th number from the control marker on their Activity Sheet.
  3. They combine these two numbers to make a two-digit number.
  4. They then add and subtract either 17, 18 or 19 from the two-digit number that they have made and record their answer on their Activity Sheet.
