Activity: Adding and subtracting 9, 10 and 11

Children use their Enrich school orienteering maps to locate specific control points. They then make two-digit numbers from the numbers on the control markers and work out either 9, 10 or 11 more/less than the numbers that they have made.

Summary

  1. Children use their Enrich school orienteering maps to locate specific control points.
  2. At each one, pupils record the 3rd and 4th numbers and combine these to make a two-digit number (e.g. 4 and 9: 49)
  3. Using mental strategies, they then work out either 9, 10 or 11 more/less than the two-digit number that they have made and record their answers on their Activity Sheet.
