Activity: Make the Biggest Number – Orienteering Challenge

Children select orienteering control points and choose numbers from the markers to complete a set of sums. Their challenge is to end up with the biggest number possible after completing the four sums on their Activity Sheet.

Summary

  1. Children use their orienteering map to locate and select control points.
  2. At each one they select, they choose numbers to create sums as indicated on their Activity Sheet. Each sum is linked to the answer of the previous one.
  3. Their challenge is to select numbers so that they end up with the biggest number possible after completing the four sums on their Activity Sheet.

Dividing with Remainders

Pupils use their Enrich school orienteering maps to locate specific control points. At each one, they record the four numbers from the control marker. Using formal written method, they then combine the 2nd, 3rd and 4th numbers as a three-digit number, and divide it by the first number.
