Activity: Simile and Metaphor Poems – The Environment

Children locate orienteering control points and use letters from the control markers to fill in missing letters in 6 ‘environment' words. They write similes about each one and use them to create simile and metaphor poems with an environment theme.


  1. Children locate specific orienteering control points, using their orienteering map.
  2. They use the letters on the control marker to fill in missing letters in six different ‘environment' words.
  3. They compose a simile about each word.
  4. They then use their similes to create simile and metaphor poems.
