Activity: Create a Character Story

Children collect a series of questions that they use to progressively build up a detailed picture of a character, based on a scenario (e.g. achieving their ambition / overcoming something they are afraid of / a dark secret).

Summary

  1. Children begin by visualising a character.
  2. Using their orienteering map, they locate a series of orienteering control points.
  3. At each control point they collect a different question that they use to build up a detailed picture of their character, based on a scenario.
  4. They can use their responses to the character questions for follow-up activities, writing a character portrait and composing a story based on the character and the scenario they explored.
